BRITISH AQUASKIPPING SPRINT RECORD FALLS IN HOVE

27 year-old Dave Cornthwaite, who made his name in 2006 by breaking the world distance skateboarding record during a trans-Australian journey from Perth to Brisbane, can now add another record to his list of achievements.

Riding a human powered hydrofoil called an Aquaskipper in Hove Lagoon on Friday 14th September, Cornthwaite had seven attempts at the 100 metre sprint record throughout the day and slowly whittled down the British record from 27 seconds to 21.96 seconds.

Rebecca Richardson, director of the Chilled Turtle Clothing who sponsored the record attempt, said "It has been a great day. Dave is exhausted but has done remarkably well. He's only been Aquaskipping for six months but has taken over 5 seconds off the record."

Members of the general public visited Hove Lagoon throughout the day to show their support and to see the extraordinary Aquaskipper in action. Cornthwaite, who is eyeing a potential Channel crossing on the Aquaskipper in 2008 said, 'I'm delighted at breaking the record and hope the interest in the event continues to see more people take up Aquaskipping, it's a great form of exercise and as today has shown, a head turner as well!'
