Surfing GB
Surfing GB is the successor to The British Surfing Association (BSA) which was founded in 1966 to promote the sport of surfing and represent the interests of all surfers in Great Britain and the Channel Islands.
Formed towards the end of 2010, Surfing GB is building on the strengths of the past NGB and working to a brighter future for surfing in the UK.
The Workshop
Surfing GB has just launched a new "Surfing Strength and Conditioning" workshop in association with Lee Stanbury, who is the author of the Complete Guide to Surf Fitness, and currently adviser to the u18 British surf team.
This Strength and Conditioning workshop has been created to allow (freelance, commercial and club based) surf coaches an opportunity to gain an insight into exercise techniques that will enhance surf performance at any level, from beginner to professional.
The workshop is a first of many new Surfing GB CPD (Continuing Professional Development) workshops which will enhance even the most experienced surf coaches CV.
The workshops will be run throughout the year and it is hoped that coaches will then take this new knowledge and integrate it into their surf club or surf school.
Our goal is to make this type of training the norm with junior's and up and coming surfers, as it is in other countries like Australia and the USA.
In addition to junior surfers gaining more performance skills and strength, it is hoped that free surfers and new surfers alike will have the opportunity to learn new techniques during their coaching session with surf schools being able to offer more informative surf lesson packages.
Lee Stanbury will be assisted during the workshop by Jamie Thomas an experienced surfer himself and a sports science lecturer for Cornwall College.
Surfing GB will be offering free places for nominated members of any Surfing GB registered surf club.
The free placements for surf clubs are endorsed by Surfing GB to help encourage clubs to adopt a better and stronger understanding of strength and fitness which can then be shared amongst club members. The workshop is £90.
