Independent Financial Adviser, Mat Hammond recently had a major fire at his house in Peacehaven causing £150,000 worth of damage.

Mat’s wife Lisa and his daughter Carys were caught up in the mêlée and were glad to get out safe and well.  Mat has three major tips to tell everyone, as these items saved a lot of the house and helped Lisa escape, such as:-

• Make sure you have smoke alarms on every floor and make sure you refresh the batteries throughout the year
  
  
• Make sure you have a land line phone that does not require mains power to work
  
  
• Check and check again your buildings and contents sum insured, you may not be as well covered as you thought

Mat not only lost his entire quiver of four boards, two boogie boards, three wet suits, his classic Mk1 VW Golf GTI was lost to the fire and his major Motorsport Library was also destroyed.

If you think this is never going to happen to you think again, Mat’s house was barely a year old and the cause is being blamed on some kind of electrical fault, even after being professionally fitted and certified once the house was built, the fire caused considerable damage.

Repairs are about to start…..  8 weeks after the fire!
