SURFERS AGAINST SEWAGE ANNOUNCE REGIONAL REPS
AARON JENNINGS IS NOW REPRESENTING SAS IN BRIGHTON
Aaron Jennings from Hove has recently been selected as a Regional Rep for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) in Brighton. This prestigious position as a voluntary Regional Rep is a hugely rewarding role that will help protect the local coastline, surf spots, and improve water quality in the area, not only for surfers but all recreational water users and beach goers.
SAS campaign for clean, safe recreational waters, free from sewage effluents, toxic chemicals, nuclear waste and marine litter. SAS also campaign to protect surf spots from environmental damage, negative impacts on wave quality and to safeguard wave riders right of access. SAS have already had a number of campaigns successes this year, including the States of Guernsey finally committing to full sewage treatment, and the release of the British Plastic Federation's (BPF) Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) guidance manual, which is aimed at helping British plastic factories keep plastic waste off our beaches.
More recently SAS starred in the most popular BBC 1 Panorama programme of the year, ‘Britain’s Dirty Beaches’. The programme featured exclusive SAS footage of sewage discharging into our nation’s rivers and bathing waters, which really struck a nerve with members of the public across the country.
Aaron Jennings will be working towards tackling these issues in your area and more, along with activities such as delivering schools talks, carrying out fundraising events and implementing local campaigns actions.
SAS is grateful to the Rip Curl Planet Foundation for its support in building up this important resource of Regional Reps in all corners of the UK. This significant step forward will facilitate many more grassroots campaigns at local level and deliver a new wave of support for SAS’s vital ongoing campaigns protecting the UK’s threatened coastline.
Hugo Tagholm, SAS Director says “We are delighted to have so many talented individuals volunteering to represent SAS around the country. This is a huge opportunity for us to take SAS campaigns to the next level, making sure we can protect the UK’s beaches, waves and water users for many years to come.”
Aaron Jennings, SAS Regional Rep for Brighton says “I am delighted to have this role with SAS, which will help protect the beaches and waves I personally use so regularly and which are a great natural asset to our region”
