FAQs
I've just downloaded the app update and now I can't login
This happens from time to time when performing an update on an app. Turn the phone off and on again then it should work fine.
I'm trying to create a new account but have not received my password email
When you create a new account you will be sent an automated email with a new password. If you haven't reeived this email it is most likely to be in your junk folder. On some phones you may need to change your email settings in order to see your junk folder.
How do I upload a Surf Report?
Go to the home page and hit the ‘Submit an Eyeball’ button just above the bottom menu. In the report page complete as many fields as you feel necessary, the more details you complete the more your friends will love you! When you click on ‘Your Location’ the app will list your nearest main beaches. Either select the one you need or if you’re at a beach that isn’t on the list add it in the text box below. A new spot will use your current location and a new pin will be added to the map. 'Tell your friends' let’s you add a message to your report and also let friends know how long you’ll be at the beach. This will then mean you will show up on the map for your friends to see for that amount of time.
I am having problems uploading a report
If your signal strength is very low the report make take a little while to upload. You'll know it has been uploaded as you will get a confirmation box confirming this and you will need to press ‘OK’. The report has not been fully uploaded until you see this confirmation.
Why do I only get red pins on the map even though there are reports showing waves?
If you go to your profile page and hit ‘edit’ (top right). At the bottom there is a slider switch allowing you to choose what height waves you wish to start to see a green pin. Set it to how fussy you are…I have mine set to 1 foot (I’m not fussy!)
What do the different colour pins represent on the map?
A green pin means someone has added a report from that beach and there’s surf! A red pin means a report has been added but it’s flat…stay in bed! A purple pin represents a break that has no report The pins all reset to purple at midnight.
How do I change my profile photo?
Click on ‘profile’ and then hit ‘change image’. You’ll the be taken into your photo library to select and upload a new photo. Once uploaded it will automatically change (no need to hit 'save' in this instance and this may take a few more seconds if the signal is low!)
How do I change my password?
This is a good thing to do as soon as you’ve created an account then you’ve more chance of remembering it later down the line! Simply go to the ‘Profile’ page and type in a new password twice. Then hit ‘Save’ (in the top right) and the phone will ask you for the original password. Once entered you’re done!
How to add new spots and breaks
The app will automatically detect the nearest breaks to you so you can select the right one for the location when adding an report. If you want to add a beach that isn’t on the list simply add the name in the text box below. Make sure you are at the beach or very close though as it will use your current location to mark the break on the map.
I’m not happy that a ‘secret spot’ is listed / I’ve noticed a beach listed near me is incorrect
Thousands of breaks have been added meaning you can use this app in all corners of the globe. The huge database of breaks have been compiled using a network of world-wide contacts and those using the app. However accurate we’ve tried to make it, with such a vast amount of spots we know there’s bound to be the odd inaccuracy. If you find something’s not quite right let us know at support@sharkbait.co.uk and we’ll get it updated. Also if a spot listed is considered ‘secret’ let us know and we’ll look into it straight away and take it down if necessary.
How do I delete breaks from my spot list?
On the places page, hit edit (top right) then delete the spots you don’t need.
How do I add beaches to my spot list?
If you click on a pin on the map and then click ‘+’ the beach will be added to your spot list. |
